The Server Is Shutting Down Very Soon

Come March 5th, 2012, the server will be eight months old. I never once thought it would still be open after this long, but somehow it made it. We've had a lot of fun times, and I'm sure more would have come, but all things must come to an end. Please, know that I make this choice with a heavy heart, and consider my position in all of this. I've cared very little for the server over the past couple of months, and my interest has waned to null. What effort I've put forth has been specifically for the benefit of the awesome community we've developed, but I'm finally laying things to rest; I'm done.

However, it's not all to an end. The server contents will be backed up, and the map will be uploaded for public download. That's the best I'm capable of given the situation. Perhaps a certain Staff Member could start a new server and continue things there... Regardless, I've had a great time playing with you guys.

p.s. As an addendum, if anyone could please notify Viperhawk that I need to talk to him, I would greatly appreciate it.

It's over. It's already been whitelisted and it will be taken offline within the next 24 hours. If Devlin or anyone else on the Staff want to carry the name and/or community on to a new server, they can, but I won't be a part of it.

I am planning on starting up a server for everyone to join. It'll be just for the people of our server and won't be made public for a while. It'll be somewhat the same as before. Some minor changes.
I might wait a while before starting it up though. At least until everything has been updated.

If you start the new server, will it be a new IP address? and if you don't will the forums still be active for the members to communicate and make it easier to find each other on new servers?

Yeah it'll be a new ip. With a new host I'm hoping it'll solve some of the lag problems.

And yeah these forums will stay up. I would like to keep the community somewhat together.

Nerevar, it truly has been a blast playing on your server, under your rule for eight months. I know we've talked about all this, but just to make it official, really brother, thanks for the amazing experience. I've met a lot of very cool people over that time, and sure we've seen some come and go, but I've made some friends that I hope will be around for as long possible.

Never did I think that the first server I joined would captivate me for two thirds of a year.

And to Devlin, I trust you know that whatever you have planned will be welcomed with open arms. I'll try and be around as long as you're willing to have me. Some people thought that these last few weeks have been rough, but I've enjoyed myself. Props to you man, you've held it together better than I could. To you and Nere, guys I really appreciate the trust you had in not only me for adminning your server, but all the staff you've recruited in keeping the peace. I feel we've been a solid team.

I'm probably being too sentimental, but I also just wanna say thanks to the community. Seriously, y'all have made our time together unforgettable. I can't believe that so much character evolved from little boxy avatars. Some of you haven't seen my days as a [Member] and know me only as Admin. I've had a blast helping you guys out, and it's been a pleasure rolling back all those griefer damages for you . I'm glad these forums are going to stay up, I'd hate to lose contact with you guys. If anyone wants, they can add me on Steam if they wish.

So yeah guys, thanks for putting up with me over all this time. Without the awesome community, none of this would've been possible. It's been one heck of a ride. Hopefully I'll see you guys around in some form or another in the future. I know this isn't technically the End, but this was as good a time as ever to thank you guys. Nere, I've had a great time in PSUCraft/Prospect under ya. When I joined on the alpha map coming off of a god-awful server I walked into a great thing. Throughout the months from the point where I couldn't even remember your name let alone your title to serving as your Mod/Secretary, I had a blast.

And again like Izza I must thank the community for the times too. Unlike him however I was promoted to staff a little later into the server's times, so many of you first knew me as a normal Member and Noble for a short stint. I'd love to keep in touch with you all on steam if you have it(ahem, Phil?) and feel free to add me as well. To all you Loyalists I'll see you on Dev's server!

Staff was always good about rolling back griefs. Establishing rules, however, and enforcing them equally? There was something lacking there.

I think the main issue was one that is unavoidable with a server that lasted as long as it did. That is, the server evolved as did the friendships, rivalries, and animosities. As such, various users at various times and phases of the server didn't respond well to change, or didn't understand or agree upon what direction the server was going. Some users notoriously hated pvp, others pwned. Some wanted what amounts to a creative server, or a creative server where you still have to get mats but have little else to worry about (Didact). Others thrived in the changes Dev initially implemented, with the gold economy and no lockette. Some were really into shops (Prezz, kidmo, etc.) and keeping the economy going, while others were more into hoarding and fabulous displays of wealth (*cough*). It was just an interesting group of people that all played for different reasons, and because of this there was sometimes drama, sometimes dissatisfaction, but a lot of the time just people having fun. I think, to be honest, it's unavoidable that people become upset, or that things change and leave some people behind in the wake.

Also, as a side note, I know TW is some sort of infamous villain or whatnot, but none of you saw things from his perspective. We generally would play side-by-side in the same room, and I saw a lot of the shit that went down directly. He had to walk on eggshells just to not get banned every 5 seconds for things that the mods would let slide for other people. The wheat incident I still find silly in retrospect, as well as the time he was trying to show a legitimate grief and was accused of foul play. He'd always be the first person to get blamed for all kinds of griefing, don't even know how many logblocks were done that turned up nothing. The one time he did get banned for 'griefing' was when he built a tunnel into Kirby's base at least 24 hours before Kirby had put up his giant wall, or even started working on it (I personally witnessed these events, it's not some second-hand heresy). Haters gonna hate, that's how I feel about all that in general.

Kidmo - you're a cool dude. I was always very impressed by the level of maturity and objectivity you displayed for being only 13 (or, is it 14 now?). You didn't allow personal or unrelated things skew your implementation of the rules. For that, you were awesome staff in my book.

Izza - I'm still mad about your trap, the arrow that knocked me down that giant shaft. RAGE. You were always almost out-mining me also, only one that came close when they still had mcmmo. Respect. You did hate TW, but that's between you and him. You never did wrong by me.

Didact - lol wtf. I remember the first time I logged on after having played on one of Ner's earlier iterations of the server. You were all calling me a griefer before I'd even been on for very long, telling staff to watch me because you somehow sensed my nefarious intentions. You pissed me off that day, not a good first impression, so I basically trolled you for the rest of the time. I see it as a counter-troll and thus somewhat justified, plus amusing as hell for myself. I like killing you the best. Me and TW used to stop everything we were doing and team up on you, stalk you through the woods, you don't even know. I still remember that one time where you were, for some reason, carrying your entire inventory on you (I'm talking, blocks of iron and whatnot) and went afk and TW tagged you. One of the better hauls we ever got, I must say.

HippieDelight - My bro. Hope it goes well with you and your kiddoes and wifey. Was fun while it lasted, built a few projects together (even on that other server, remember?). Good stuff.

NevaChaos - I liked fighting you, in your damn diamond armor. You were the king of logging off to avoid death. +1 for you good sir.

I have to go to work now, but it's been good. I might write up some more later on, there were a few other users that were pretty cool, or particularly lame, in my book.

Yeah, the server had a pretty good run. I wasn't there right from the start, but Nere did a great job, and it'll be sad to see him go. I saw the end of the server coming along just before I was asked to be co-owner. Everyone had a map with lockette and /home and mcmmo. Everything was simple, but the only people I ever saw online were Viper and Cno.

Then Nere asked me if I wanted to take over. If I had said no, the server would have ended right there, and I was considering it. But I took the chance of trying something different in order to get people interested again. The way I saw it, is if I made things a little more difficult, people would have to take their time and build slowly to workl around any obstacles. They wouldn't have everything immediately and it'd keep their interest longer. Either way I went, easy or difficult, there was never a way to please everyone. You can stay the same and lose people to things getting stale, or you can try something new and lose people who can't handle the changes. Being an owner isn't easy.

The server still isn't finished, however. I will be getting it back up with a new host and everything, and try to give it another shot. I'm just having a hard time deciding which way to go. As Cno has said we have a decent variety of players in our community, as much as I'd like to give everyone what they want, we can only really go in one direction.
Should I make it more of a creative-survival server, the way it was before I took over with /home and warps? Should I keep it the way I had it in this previous map, where things are a little tougher? Or should I experiment with trying something new again? I do have an idea that'll be a small, yet big change to the world, but first I'd like to see what everyone else would like to see in the new server.

Everyone who was here in the previous map, thanks for sticking around. It didn't go as I'd planned or hoped, it was the first time I've really run a server, but I've learned and it'll hopefully go better next time.

Personally, I prefer a creative-survival server, but without lockette/mcmmo or /home. the heros plugin seemed a bit much to me as well.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The server will be up most likely within a couple weeks. It shouldn't be any later than the 31st, but I'll try and have it up earlier if I can.

So Dev, what kind of plugins do you have in mind for the new map?
You running sort of like before, or are you going close to vanilla?

I think we'll lean to more of a vanilla direction.
I would still like to have a floating spawn area with a few shops set up for everyone to buy and sell materials, as well as have warps to different points in the map. I'll use lockette since it's a bit easier for everyone. That might be as far as we'll go for now with the plugins, though I always welcome suggestions.

I regret that I wasn't on Prospect earlier. I'd have loved to have seen and participated in the building of Deveron. However, there were plenty of good memories. The building of the Ark was a group project on a massive scale. The ark brought everyone in the server closer, it gave us a reason to work together to create one of Prospect's largest achievements! The building of Winterfall was my most favorite Prospect acheivement, along with Winterfall II and Alaspar.... Okay, I don't have a favorite. I loved it all!

Although, there were also the "Not-so-awesome" times, mostly relating to a certain salty, twisted snack.(lol) Whether it was an arguement over properties, items, pvp, griefing, posting smut on the chat, or accusations over mod power abuse, you kept a fair attitude to both parties. And, who could forget the great King Jaegar going insane and almost murdering our beloved server? Thanks to your foresight, you were able to save our home!

We all appreciate the hard work you have put into the server, to make it a better home for us all! We will never forget you. <3 Be sure to visit us again after Devlin brings our server back up! Oh, and one more thing:
